Margot Robbie Has Been Pushing For Harley/Poison Ivy Romance

Though Margot Robbie’s next appearance in the DC Universe hasn’t been announced, she has some ideas. While promoting Babylon in a recent ComicBook.com interview, Robbie shared her hopes for a Harley Quinn-Poison Ivy romance.

“I have been pushing for that for years. I cannot tell you how hard I’ve been pushing for that,” Robbie said. When asked whether she had any actors in mind to play her character’s potential romantic partner, she added, “Honestly, when I picture it, I always picture, like Poison Ivy in the comics. I don’t really actually picture an actress doing it, but… that would be so good.”

Robbie won’t be portraying Harley Quinn in the character’s next onscreen appearance. Lady Gaga will be stepping into the role, opposite Joaquin Phoenix, for the highly-anticipated Joker sequel, officially titled Joker: Folie à Deux. The movie is scheduled to premiere on October 4, 2024.

This year’s Season 3 of HBO Max’s animated Harley Quinn series, meanwhile, continued to portray a loving and lasting relationship between Harley and Ivy. The pair got together in Season 2, and showrunners Justin Halpern and Patrick Schumacker recently told The AV Club that they have no intention of ever breaking the couple up.

While it’s unclear whether Robbie will be returning to the role of Harley Quinn, word recently came out that the Pirates of the Caribbean film that was set to star Margot is still very much a viable project. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer told Collider earlier this month that the film isn’t dead, in contrasting comments Robbie made to Vanity Fair in November that the “female-led Pirates” movie was dead in the water due to a lack of interest from Disney. Bruckheimer reaffirmed that it might take a while, but there is still interest in the project–it just may not be a priority for Disney right now.
