Ralphie Comes Home For Another Christmas Story In New Trailer
Bob Clark’s A Christmas Story rejuvenated holiday movies in the early ’80s, and it’s become embedded in our culture around Christmas time, mainly due to TBS airing it for 24 straight hours on Christmas Day. There was a direct-to-video sequel in 2012 which focused on a teenage Ralphie trying to get a car. Now, the original Ralphie, played by Peter Billingsley, is back with his family in A Christmas Story Christmas and we finally have the first trailer.
This film takes place far into the future with Ralphie and his own family coming home after the death of his father, the Old Man (originally played by Darren McGavin), leaving Ralphie to helm a Christmas to rival the kind he had as a child.
Billingsley is reunited with his friends R. D. Robb and Scott Schwartz who reprise their roles of Swartz and Flick, respectively, after almost 40 years. Ralphie is also joined by his wife–played by Julie Hagerty (A Marriage Story)–and their daughter, Sandy–played by Erinn Hayes (Bill and Ted Face The Music). Even Zack Ward is coming back as Scut Farkus, despite the two lawsuits he was in over likeness rights with Warner Bros. a decade ago.
From the trailer, you can see a lot of callbacks from Higbee’s department store and of course, a possible altercation with a mall Santa, as well as the ultimate triple-dog-dare of Schwartz doing something incredibly dangerous.
The original movie was a surprise hit making over $20 million on a $3 million budget. It became a merchandising giant during the holidays, and there was even a Broadway musical that garnered several Tony nominations.
A Christmas Story Christmas arrives November 17 on HBO Max.
