Bryan Cranston Is Working On A Malcolm In The Middle Reboot Script, According Frankie Muniz
A Malcolm in the Middle reboot might be in the cards, as Frankie Muniz says that former co-star Bryan Cranston might be heading up a script.
Malcolm in the Middle has been off the air for 16 years now, but like many popular shows, fans are always wondering if a reboot could happen. According to Muniz in a recent interview with Fox News Digital, one could be in the works, with Cranston, now possibly better known for his role in Breaking Bad, apparently writing a script for it.
“I know Bryan Cranston is really into the idea,” Muniz said of a potential reboot, going on to say, “He’s kind of heading writing the script and getting everything rolling. So, there might be something. I would be down 100 percent. But I don’t know–we’ll see what happens.”
Muniz also noted that he would “love” to revisit the show today with the original cast, noting that “When I was filming the show, I obviously was a kid. I didn’t really watch the show when it was on, but I’ve now since watched the show with my wife. We [watched] all 151 episodes… I realized, ‘Wow, that’s what we were making.’… I can separate myself from being on it and watching it as a fan. I would love to know what the family’s up to.”
In the interview, Muniz also spoke about how he left acting for a while after Malcolm in the Middle finished, something he’s now thankful for in light of how many child actors go on to struggle in various ways as adults.
Cranston spoke about the possibility of a Malcolm in the Middle movie in 2016, though obviously this never materialized, so we’ll have to wait and see what the actor is working on, or if it’s just something he’s doing for fun.
