GameStop Will Reportedly Close Stores For Thanksgiving This Year
While in previous years GameStop has opened its stores for limited hours on Thanksgiving night, getting a head start on Black Friday sales, it appears the retailer plans to close for the holiday this year.
The report comes courtesy of @videogamedeals on Twitter, who posted an image of what looks like an internal email or communication from the GameStop team. Among a list of extended holiday hours, the image shows stores are designated to be closed for Thanksgiving day.
Prior to the pandemic, GameStop joined other stores in opening limited hours on Thanksgiving, starting from 3 or 4PM. In 2020, the gaming retailer chose not to open at all on Thanksgiving due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and in 2021 only some stores were opened on Thanksgiving day, offering limited stocks of PS5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles.
No public announcements have been made by GameStop yet to confirm or deny these holiday opening hours, and it’s possible the company will decide to once again open some stores for limited hours on Thanksgiving day. In previous years, the hours were updated on GameStop’s website in the lead up to Thanksgiving, and the company will likely do the same again this year.
