Seth Rogen’s Sausage Party Getting A TV Show With Original Voice Cast

The Sausage Party universe is expanding. Prime Video announced today that it picked up a new Sausage Party animated series based on the movie, with the original cast set to return.

The TV series is called Sausage Party: Foodtopia, and it’s coming to Prime Video in 2024. The cast for the sequel includes the voices of Seth Rogen, Kristen Wiig, Michael Cera, David Krumholtz, and Edward Norton. New cast members for the TV show include Will Forte, Sam Richardson, Natasha Rothwell, and Yassir Lester. The series is now in production and there will eight episodes in the first season, the show’s poster suggests.

Sausage Party returns

Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, who co-wrote the original movie, said in a statement that 2016’s Sausage Party represented the pinnacle of what could be achieved in film, so they turned their attention to TV.

“Now that film is completely dead and TV is the forever-king of entertainment, we’ve decided to continue the epic adventures of our culinary crew in the soon-to-be-legendary televised masterpiece Sausage Party: Foodtopia,” they said. “It’s got all the heart, double the puns, and triple the food-on-food sex. In other words, it’s exactly what the world needs right now.”

Prime Video didn’t share any details on the story, saying with a wink, that plot details are “being kept firmly under wrappers.”

Ariel Shaffir and Kyle Hunter, who co-wrote the 2016 movie with Rogen and Goldberg, are executive producers and showrunners for Foodtopia. Sausage Party co-director Conrad Vernon is returning as well in a supervising director role.

Sausage Party tells the story of grocery store food that discovers the horror of what happens at home. The movie made more than $140 million at the box office against a budget of $19 million, making it among the most commercially successful R-rated animated films in history.
